SOLARIS X86 SOLUTIONS
Oracle7 for Solaris(TM) x86
Oracle7(TM) Server Technology(TM) from Oracle(R) Corporation, the
largest database software company in the world, is available on
SunSoft's Solaris(TM) x86 software environment. This combination
offers a potent solution for developing and deploying distributed
mission-critical applications in complex enterprise client/server
environments.
Building Better Client/Server Solutions
Oracle7 Server Technology combines distributed database and
parallel computing to hide the complexity of client/server
computing. It provides simultaneous transparent access to multiple
heterogeneous data sources, allowing users to integrate new and
existing computing resources into a manageable enterprise-wide
system. Oracle7's advanced server features improve server
reliability and programmer productivity while reducing systems
maintenance costs.
Oracle's Cooperative Development Environment(TM) (CDE) is an
integrated suite of CASE design and application development tools
for creating mission-critical client/server applications. CDE
supports the complete application development life cycle, from
analysis and design through implementation and maintenance. CDE's
versatile system modeling environment simplifies the creation and
revision of cooperative client/server RDBMS solutions.
A Stable, Open Platform
Solaris x86 is a powerful and versatile software environment for
the Intel(R) x86 platform. Designed as a foundation for enterprise
computing, Solaris x86 provides robust services for both desktop
and server systems. Its multitasking and multithreading
capabilities boost application performance and take full advantage
of the power of 486 and Pentium PCs, enabling complex applications
to be simultaneously available on the desktop. Support of key
industry standards, including the distributed Network File System
(NFS) and the Motif graphical user interface, increases the power
of the desktop by making the resources of the network (files,
printers, applications) easily accessible, appearing to reside
locally.
Solaris servers can integrate easily into existing PC LANs
(including IPX/SPX-based LANs) providing access to powerful
enterprise applications and data without modifying installed PCs.
Solaris servers can also unite legacy mainframes and PC LANS,
increasing the utility of each. With the same programming
interfaces as Solaris SPARC,(R) Solaris x86 ensures source
compatibility between the leading CISC (x86) and RISC (SPARC)
platforms, giving users the flexibility to deploy applications on
systems ranging from laptops to superservers.
